The area’s stunning beaches and impressive natural landscapes are a big reason, and of course the range of outdoor activities and high-energy nightlife don’t hurt, either. Cabo San Lucas is an extremely popular destination for U.S. residents seeking an exciting getaway in Mexico.
You can find a nearly endless assortment of things to do in Cabo San Lucas no matter when you go. But there are several upcoming events that we think are particularly appealing, and might be a good reason to schedule your travel plans accordingly.
Mexican Independence Day – Sept. 16. Needless to say, this is a huge occasion in Mexico. The holiday officially falls on September 16, but the big celebration actually happens the night before. That’s when seemingly the whole town participates in the festivities. You will be able to partake in parties and fiestas at many of the bars and restaurants all around the city. Downtown is a central hub for lots of festivities, and a stroll near the Marina would also provide plenty of opportunities to join in the celebrations.
Festival of Cabo San Lucas—Oct. 18. The city hosts this festival every year, as a way to honor and pay respect to Saint Luke, its patron saint and the city’s namesake. This is a major event, with everyone in town taking part. Downtown streets are closed to accommodate the parades, and you can have a great time at the festival that features nonstop music and entertainment, plus plenty of great food.
Bisbee’s Black & Blue Tournament 2016—Oct.18 – 22. For those unfamiliar with this event, don’t be misled by the name, as it has nothing to do with bruises or injuries of any kind. It is actually a major fishing event, attracting anglers from all around the world who are competing in the hopes of winning some of the millions of dollars in prize money up for grabs. It’s a major happening creating lots of activity all around the Downtown area. The marlin tournament departs from the Marina, while the weighing station is set up in front of Puerto Paraiso mall. Even for those with no interest in catching fish, this is an exciting event as it’s a rare opportunity to see hundreds of boats and ships from all parts of the world.
Ironman Los Cabos—Oct. 30. The most famous triathlon event is a popular happening in Cabo, and draws athletes from near and far, as well as enthusiastic crowds to cheer them on. Part of the allure is the unique backdrop the location offers. The main event features a 2.4-mile swim in the Sea of Cortez, a 112-mile bike ride and a 20-mile run along the corridor between Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo.
All Souls' Day (Day of the Dead) – Día de los Fieles Difuntos—Nov. 2. A major holiday in Mexico, this is an occasion designated as a time to remember and honor deceased relatives and loved ones. Despite the seemingly somber purpose of the occasion, it’s a time filled with music, food and celebrations.
