TODOS SANTOS - Baja Art & Music Colony Near Cabo San Lucas

Todos Santos -  ‘The Beyond of Baja’ - Discover Art, Music, Fine Cuisine and the Illusionary Hotel California in this sleepy artist's colony an hour north of Cabo

Todos Santos Hotel California - made famous by the Eagles song.

Tourists who aren’t into the Cabo San Lucas scene of catching a big fish, golf or getting drunk and hanging upside down by their ankles on a fish scale in a bar are happy to discover the sleepy ‘Artists Colony’ of Todos Santos just one hour north of Cabo San Lucas. What was once Santa Fe, New Mexico in the 1920´s, later Carmel and Laguna Beach in the 50´s & 60´s, is now becoming Todos Santos. Whatever that is … or whatever you want it to be.
To get there, rent a car, take the two-lane highway out of Cabo San Lucas, and get prepared to enjoy one of the most spectacular scenic drives to be found anywhere. You will cross over grand arroyos, look down on Pacific coast beaches, off which you may see migrating whales spouting or manta rays the size of baby grand pianos belly flopping. The road meanders up and down hills and across coastal plains covered with thorn tropical vegetation.

In Todos Santos one can stroll paved (and dirt) colonial era streets of a peaceful village where one will find more art galleries and fine restaurants than cantinas or taco stands. Here you won’t have to fend off Time Share sales people, or ‘street peddlers’ who in Cabo San Lucas, seem to leap out at you from behind every bush and rock.

ASIA DENTAL TOURISM, DENTAL HOLIDAYS, CERTIFIED DENTISTS ASSOCIATION, REVIEWS, PRICES

Asia Dental Tourism Review by the Board Certified Asia Dental  Association

By Doctor Sandra Jamala, President,Board Certified Asia Dental Association

A new survey of dental clinics and dental prices in Asia by the Royal Hong Kong Dentist Association noted that a Board Certified dentist in Asia with 2-4 more years of specialist training often costs the same as a general dentist for the same advanced dentistry treatments.

The problem is – general dentists as a rule are only been trained in dental basics such as cleaning, drilling, filling and pulling (teeth). They are not formally trained in dental implants, cosmetic dentistry, root canals or veneers.

Not everyone knows there is a great difference in the quality of work between a general and specialist dentists.  Thousands of dental patients from more developed nations such as Australia, the UK, Canada and the US searching for affordable dentistry fly to Asia to see a dentist in the Philippines or Thailand dental clinics each year.

Latest Dental Tourism Market Trends Show Continuing Growth
From IMTJ

Summary: This study covers the growth in the dental tourism market, dental tourism prices, the increase in both demand and supply and how providers will need to differentiate their offering to remain competitive.

Dental tourism has become a booming industry, where every dentist fights for his reputation and wants to be among the first options for the travelling patient.

But how easy is it and what does it take to be a competitive player in such an unpredictable industry? With increasing awareness of the potential of the dental tourism, more and more dental clinics are trying to get into the business of attracting foreign patients.
But unfortunately most are relying on the same message…. “We are the best dentists, we provide the best dental services, in the most beautiful location, and offer dental services at X% less compared to country Y prices for the same services.”

Patient choice in dental tourism

…How can the patient choose among the sea of dentists?

…What are the criteria used in finding the best dentist?

EBOLA TRAVEL BANS BY COUNTRY (Mexico, Asia - China, the Philippines, India, Latin America, Africa)

EBOLA TRAVEL BANS by Reuters, Voice of America, Dental Tourism News Today

Yesterday the World Health Organization stated the official number of deaths in West Africa to be 4,800 but said the real total may be closer to 15,000. African countries are in the front lines in battling this dreadful disease, but with modern air travel, the front line can easily be any international airport terminal. Hospitals around the world are having Ebola management training sessions for their staffs and its only prudent that international airports do the same.

There are 47 countries in continental Africa, if you add in related islands off the coasts such as Madagascar, Mauritius, Sechelles and others the total gets up to 53. Getting all the politicians in Africa on board to fight Ebola is a challenge in itself.  It wasn't too many years ago some African politicians were in denial regarding AIDS, it's causes and prevention. As a result countries such as Swaziland have an HIV rate of 25% according to WHO (World Health Org).

As of this date, Latin America including Mexico, and all of Asia remain Ebola free. Asian governments have had their share of Asian bird flu or SARS and are not taking any chances with Ebola and are vigorously preparing their health agencies to deal with it.

Medical and dental tourism patients bound for popular health care travel destinations such as Mexico, Thailand and the Philippines can expect a little extra health screenings on arrivals from some countries but that will soon become the norm everywhere not only because of Ebola but because of the many other viral threats that will continue to appear over time.

On pages that follow you will find a list of countries that have recently enacted Ebola related travel bans or restrictions. The list is updated often so check back.  - Dental Tourism News Today

ASIA'S BEST DENTAL TOURISM COUNTRIES By the Board Certified Asia Dentist Association

Dentists in Manila and Bangkok are much less expensive than Mexican dentists! Asian Dental holidays are growing in popularity with American and Canadian dental patients.

Dental Travel Agencies Recommend Manila or Bangkok Dentists for Affordable Dentistry

The Board Certified Asia Dental Association Asia Dental Travel Guide service has Asian dentists including certified Manila, Hong Kong and Bangkok Dentists.

And you thought only Mexican dentists were affordable!

Dental prices in Asia are generally 20-30% less than Mexican dentists who are already 50-75% less costly than US, Canada, UK and dentists in Australia.

Ex. A teeth cleaning by a dentist in Mexico including 2 x-rays will run $40-60 vs. $20 in Manila. I won't quote you a price for a cleaning by a US dentist - most don't do cleanings - or windows. But if they did - it would be $100 - $175. (including a couple of x-rays)

EBOLA HYSTERIA - UPDATE - Nigeria Shows the World How to Contain the Virus

Nigeria Eliminates Ebola - So Can Everyone Else!

Ebola has not appeared in Mexico and the rest of Latin America or Asia. It can be contained and eliminated if you look at the recent success of Nigeria in doing so according to this Oct. 20 WSJ article reposted by Dental Tourism News Today.

Reasons to Calm Down About Ebola
Nigeria has contained Ebola, with a health system that is better than Liberia’s but below developed-world standards.

The Ebola epidemic ravaging Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea is unlikely to become a global pandemic, though an international response is critical. The isolated cases in the U.S., Spain and elsewhere are to be expected, but as long as public-health systems act with alacrity, this should not lead to new outbreaks.

Ebola is not particularly successful in humans by viral standards. HIV, to take a familiar example, has been killing more than a million people a year for almost two decades. Ebola has hitherto caused only small, localized outbreaks. This is likely because Ebola is not adapted to human hosts, but is introduced into populations on rare occasions, when people come into close contact with its natural reservoirs—thought to be bats and possibly other wildlife. Since the virus didn’t evolve with humans, it wreaks havoc on our bodies but achieves only limited success in propagating itself.

EBOLA UPDATE - Effects on Medical and Dental Tourism in Mexico and Asia

Ebola is the most deadly virus to come along since the swine flu in 2009 and the related Asian bird flu or SARS. The first recorded swine flu influenza pandemic occurred in 1918 and killed an approximate 50-100 million worldwide. The more recent one was responsible for 1,000,s but not millions of deaths.
Now along comes ebola at a time when people are traveling more and the virus itself being more communicable than the swine flu of 2009.
Estimates vary widely as to how many could be infected by the time it burns itself out or God-forbid – mutates and becomes airborne. If it does – we’re looking at a doomsday scenario straight out of Hollywood only worse.

California hairstylist and makeup artist Jennifer Gates  hadn’t seen a dentist in years when she got the call last spring. Her father, Jerry Halley, 64, phoned to say he desperately needed crowns for a few back teeth and other work. Without insurance, Mr. Halley, who owns a landscaping business in Oregon, would have to pay the estimated $8,000 bill.

“We all needed quality dental care, fast,” said Ms. Gates, whose own dental-work estimate was $20,000 and whose immediate family was also uninsured. “So, I started planning.” Ms. Gates found a reputable dentist through the Board Certified Mexico Dentist Association. Six weeks later, Ms. Gates flew to join her parents for a week of massages and tanning in Cabo, Mexico, punctuated, in her case, by daily visits to a dentist.
