Lets talk about Mexican dentists. Quality can be problematic and here’s why.
General dentists in Mexico untrained in dental implants, cosmetic dentistry,
root canals etc. can legally attempt advanced dental procedures by practicing
on unsuspecting patients. Did that wake you up? If not, read it again.
This situation is not
the result of any conspiracy, or criminality – just less consumer protection
laws. It used to be the same situation in the US many decades ago. But
the Mexican government does not get in the way of any general dentists in
Mexico who want to learn advanced dentistry the old-fashioned way – by trial
and error on their patients (that’s you, me and Jose').
But it gets worse - especially in the smaller Mexican border
towns. There you can find many clinics which prey on desperate US patients operated by
illegal alien unlicensed dentists from Central America (and the USA), dental
school drop-outs, dental technicians and worse – clinics operated by
businessmen and American Insurance companies stocked with dental school grads
doing (attempting) specialist work at minimal wages.
May God protect you if
you get one of those nice young dentists learning root canals at your
expense.
Another article all by itself could be written about all the new dental
tourism agencies out there with clever .com names like WhateverDentist,
Denti-agogo or DentureAdventures. Denture Adventures?
Here's the problem. Commercial dental tourism agencies accept any
dentist’s listing whether a general dentist inaccurately refers to himself as a “specialist” or is the real deal as long as the dentist pays their often huge
listing fees. And you don’t know what you will get with these guys some of whom are pretenders just after the dental tourist.
One dental tourism agencies - I won't mention any names here - but it sounds like Flacidway.com... claims over 12,000 dentists on file around the world. There is no way in a hundred lifetimes one could possibly vet 12,000 dentists in the few years FW has been in business. Vetting takes time. Especially when communicating with health authorities and dental colleges verifying credentials in scores of different languages. In Mexican border towns - dental clinic salon walls are infamous for being decorated with fake diplomas. I've seen them Los Algodones, Tijuana, even Cabo San Lucas.

But don’t be discouraged
and give up on taking that Mexican dental vacation for here’s the way to get an
affordable root canal with a margarita chaser. Find a board certified dentist
for your important dentistry.
Highly-skilled board
certified dentists in Mexico with years of advanced specialist training cost
the same as far-less skilled general dentists in Mexico. But board certified
dentists represent less than 1% of the dentists in Mexico.
To find one - contact
the Board Certified Mexico Dentist Association. They will find the right
dentist for you in the dental vacation destination of your dreams whether Cabo
San Lucas, Cancun, Puerto Vallarta or even Tijuana (stay and play in San Diego).
Their patient advisers
prepare estimates, referrals, arrange gratis ground transportation, answer
questions and are there for you through the entire process. And without
additional cost to you. They offer a level of personal assistance that the
commercial online dental tourism agencies do not.
Your safest bet is to
get a Board Certified Mexico Dentist Association dentist. The association
directors do a good job of vetting new dentist applicants and keeping the pretenders out.
For Free estimates,
referrals and dental tourism information contact:

cities and popular dental tourist locales - Cabo, Puerto Vallarta, Cancun,
